The world’s most extravagant Art Basel party: a feminist carnival

Offset and Ansel Elgort’s pre-Art Basel party on Saturday night wasn’t just festive and fun. It was also billed by organizers as “the Most Extravagant Art Show in the World.”

In case the concept of a $400,000 art party was enough to generate pure hyperbole, guests were treated to a sight that would make a high-roller proud. A blow-up Princess Elsa played musical chairs while a koi pond turned into a flamingo habitat. Dressed as what appeared to be a drag queen, a shirtless SZA blew kisses to guests who marveled over the scene. Behind her hung a table made from two piles of wood and a woman strapped on a sword as though preparing for a duel.

Hoodrich Pablo Juan and DJ Chris Brown provided the beats for the event, which was at the Box nightclub on South Beach. It also wasn’t the only Miami Art Basel event on Saturday night. Outside, a group of women donned the jumpsuits of a group of waitresses from Spring Break ’18, while a younger crowd gathered at the Aqua nightclub to catch Chez Snoop, a free outdoor concert featuring more than 20 of Snoop Dogg’s original backup dancers. Snoop, clad in a Tom Ford black wool suit, joined them for a shirtless set of stripped-down rap, complete with wall of bubbles and scents created by Paul, the Fancy, and Chai Water. The crowd broke out in thunderous applause as Snoop sprinted through the aisles, putting a smile on his face each time.
