Beyoncé, Rihanna & Taylor Swift Are Most Powerful Women in Music

From Fake Love to Don’t Stop The Music, this is a year when Rihanna (35 percent) is spending more time on the Forbes’ list of the most powerful women in music than any other woman in the entire pop genre. And she’s not the only pop star riding high on this list – singer/songwriter Bey and industry mogul Taylor are ranked second and third, respectively.

Taking the top spot for the second year in a row is Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The comedic duo take the No. 1 spot thanks to their surprisingly popular comedy hit, Mean Girls, as well as their work on Saturday Night Live.

Rounding out the top five are Taylor’s nemesis, Kim Kardashian West, Oprah Winfrey, and superstar Jessica Alba.

Though the Forbes list ranks the world’s richest women only, a number of women dominate the world of entertainment. Rihanna, Beyoncé, Taylor, and Kardashian West are ranked just after The Queen of England, French president, China’s president, the British prime minister, and 50 other female celebrities.

Rihanna on the Forbes list might seem unusual – compared to Beyoncé, Taylor, and Beyoncé – but its based on an annual ranking of the world’s top 100 earners by Forbes magazine. For anyone who grew up reading Taylor Swift news in magazines and on TV, it can be strange to see her landing among the world’s richest. But if you consider that Taylor can turn a profit on just one lyric in her hit single Shake It Off for $450, it makes perfect sense.

In fact, last year Taylor and Rihanna tied for first place, and Katy Perry – who, while known for hits such as Teenage Dream and I Kissed A Girl, managed to earn more from her endorsements than her music in 2015 – was sitting at 10th place on the Forbes ranking. Similarly, Kendrick Lamar moved up to No. 29 this year, moving past actress/singer/comedian Jennifer Lawrence and leaving the Queen of Pop, Madonna, and singers Britney Spears and Lady Gaga.

While we are at it, it’s worth noting that Taylor still has some major competition. As a matter of fact, five more people beat out the 35-year-old singer this year. Overall, Rihanna’s net worth this year is estimated at $135 million, while Kim Kardashian is sitting on $75 million. Beyoncé, meanwhile, has reportedly accumulated an even bigger fortune of $170 million.

Beyoncé’s high ranking comes on the heels of her award-winning and world-acclaimed album Lemonade, which set the record for most streams ever, in June of 2016. On stage, the mother of two is currently embarking on her Formation World Tour, and while Taylor recently returned to the stage for her first-ever headlining tour, she still has her hands full promoting her latest album, Reputation. Finally, Taylor will release her fifth album in the next few months, so it’ll be interesting to see who tops the bill come next year’s list.
